Scope
The Journal of Oral Biosciences is the official journal of the Japanese Association for Oral Biology, and is published quarterly in addition to a supplementary issue for the Proceedings of the Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association for Oral Biology.
The original name of the Journal until 2003 was Shika Kiso Igakkai Zasshi (Japanese Journal of Oral Biology) and was founded in 1959. The Journal is devoted to the advancement and dissemination of fundamental knowledge concerning every aspect of oral biosciences including cariology research, craniofacial biology, dental materials, implant biology, geriatric oral biology, microbiology/immunology and infection control, mineralized tissue, neuroscience, oral oncology, periodontal research, pharmacology, pulp biology, and salivary research (signaling, and other fields). The Journal also publishes reviews, lectures and articles concerning progress related to methodologies. The Journal welcomes the submission of manuscripts from any country.

Investigations on human subjects and experiments should conform to accepted ethical standards formulated in the Helsinki Declaration of 1964 (revised in 2000, cf. http://www.med.or.jp/wma/helsinki02_j.html). Fully informed consent should be obtained and noted in the manuscripts. Similarly, the protocol for animal experiments should also comply with the provisions of the Helsinki Declaration and should be approved by an institutional review board.

Submission of manuscripts
Articles for the Journal of Oral Biosciences should be submitted electronically via online submission (http://ess.jstage.jst.go.jp/contrib/JORALBIOSCI/initialsubmission)

Galley proofs and reprint orders
The Journal provides authors with galley and illustration proofs for their examination. The authors should proofread these carefully, but no new items may be inserted in the text at the time of proofreading.
Reprint order forms will be sent to authors along with their proofs. Reprint orders should be placed when the galley proofs are returned. Fifty reprints without covers will be supplied free of charge for members of the Japanese Association for Oral Biology. Orders cannot be cancelled after printing of the Journal has been finalized.

Copyright transfer
- Copyrights of papers accepted for publication shall be reserved by the Japanese Association for Oral Biology and the corresponding author will be asked to sign a Transfer of Copyright form which will be sent to the author.
- Submission of a manuscript means that the authors automatically agree to assign exclusive copyright license to the Journal of Oral Biosciences if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication.
